AXA celebrated its third Corporate Responsibility (CR) Week last week (8 – 16 June). AXA’s Corporate Responsibility week is a global annual event dedicated to all AXA’s employees with the goal to inspire commitment and pride by sharing how CR is part of their day to day business, educating them to act as ambassadors on Risk Education, and bringing them together to build momentum and emotion around a common theme. These activities revolve around volunteering, education and supporting the environment.

This year saw over 160,000 employees in 57 countries come together in support of Risk Research and Education, competing in a global challenge to raise funds for local risk education projects. Each local AXA entity sought to contribute the most kilometres (km) from walking, biking, hiking and volunteering to secure part of a €200,000 (S$334,420) prize fund for their local charity project – the final contribution depending on their rank among all AXA entities.

In order to help raise funds for charity, more than 250 AXA Singapore employees and distributors participated in an entire week of volunteering and helped with coastal cleanups in Pulau Ubin and East Coast Park beaches, as well as mangrove rehabilitation at Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve.

AXA Singapore also participated in a special 24-hour Asia Relay where employees from 12 countries raced together to raise funds for the WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature). Members of the senior management team represented Singapore in the relay, covering 269km in five hours swimming, running, and cycling.

Kwek Perroy Li Choo, Chief Corporate Responsibility Officer for AXA Singapore says “This year’s Corporate Responsibility Week was slightly different. We wanted our staff to participate, contribute and also have fun, and hence we planned various activities so that people can choose how they want to volunteer their time. We achieved 12,850km, triple the km we earned in 2012. CR Week is gaining momentum and we hope to make it bigger and better each year, so that giving back to society continues to be an integral part of our AXA culture.”

AXA is committed to corporate responsibility toward its staff, customers, the community and the environment. This includes reducing our worldwide carbon footprint and our Corporate Responsibility strategy has enabled us to reduce our global CO2 emissions by 34% and power consumption by 16% since 2008, according to our 2012 environmental tracking survey. The tangible impacts are the result of the efforts of all our employees, and we will continue to support this mindset in the year to come.
